February is CTE Month which stands for Career and Technical Education. Our CTE programs at North Bend High School directly prepare students for high-demand careers. Our programs cover many different fields, including culinary, health care, manufacturing and graphic design. Jennifer Hampel has been teaching for 6 years and developed the program with fellow CTE teacher Jessianne Miller. They were trained under the SOCC "BAHCPP" or "backpack" program . It stands for Basic Allied Healthcare Career Pathways Program. All of the courses in the program are dual-credit. Her courses are; Introduction to Healthcare Careers, Medical Terminology 1 and 2, Body Structures and Functions (Anatomy) 1 and 2, and Medical Law and Ethics. Ms. Hampel focuses on a lot of experiential and hands-on learning in these courses. Students get to use industry quality equipment such as ultrasound machines, ECG monitors, and x-ray machines. They also learn using realistic models for learning to draw blood, give IV's and perform suturing. They also use real pig hearts, lungs, kidneys, and bone to do dissections during the anatomy courses.
