Title IX Training
All Title IX Coordinators are required to receive training. The May 2020 Title IX regulations (effective August 14, 2020), require specific training for the Title IX Coordinator pertaining to sexual harassment, including:
the definition of sexual harassment within Title IX
the scope of the recipient’s educational program or activity
how to conduct an investigation or grievance process
how to serve impartially by avoiding prejudgment of facts at issue, conflicts of interest, and bias
ODE offers monthly open-enrollment trainings during the school year:
IX 101 is a two-hour overview training for new Title IX Coordinators and other designated Title IX personnel. This training covers a basic overview of Title IX, including athletics, single-sex programs, gender identity and sexual orientation, and sexual harassment, and how Title IX overlaps with Oregon state laws.
Title IX Sexual Harassment is a four-hour training (over one or two sessions) that dives into the requirements of the 2020 sexual harassment regulations including the definition of sexual harassment, the requirements of the grievance process, and avoiding conflicts of interests and bias.
Email Kate Hildebrandt, ODE Civil Rights Specialist and Title IX Coordinator, at katherine.hildebrandt@ode.oregon.gov for updated training dates. Customized training for individual schools and districts is also available.
